Biography

Daniela Jakšić Despot is an assistant-research associate, PhD student at Department of Microbiology, University of Zagreb, Faculty of pharmacy and biochemistry. Her scientific interests include characterisation of fungal species assigned to genus Aspergillus, their secondary metabolites and corresponding mechanisms of actions in human cell lines. Currently she is an associate in a project funded by Croatian science foundation: Adverse effects of single and combined mycotoxins produced by Aspergilli (2016-2020) led by Prof. Maja Šegvić Klarić. The main scope of the project is to collect and investigate airsamples, dustsamples and food samples from post-flooded area in Eeastern Croatia regarding fungal composition and mycotoxins content compared to unflooded area in Croatia, and to assess individual and combined toxicity of mycotoxins and Aspergilli extracts in vitro and in vivo. • 2015: Congress Secretary of „Power of Fungi and Mycotoxins in Health and Disease“, Solaris, Šibenik, Croatia. • 2011: Member of Organising Comittee of the symposium „Power of Fungi and Mycotoxins in Health and Disease“, Primošten, Croatia. • Member of Croatian Microbiological Society (part of FEMS), since 2009; Croatian Toxicological Society (part of EUROTOX), since 2012; Croatian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (part of FEBS), since 2012.

Research Interest
